This Privacy Policy explains how Afripedia ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use the Afripedia mobile application and related services (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information that you provide directly when you create and use an account:

• Account information: your first name, last name, and email address.
• Authentication data: a password, which is stored only in an encrypted (hashed) form and is never visible to us.
• Optional profile information: your country and a profile image associated with your account, if you choose to provide them. The App does not access your device's camera or photo library.
• Content you submit: contributions, quiz activity, and other content you create within the App.

We also collect limited technical information automatically:

• Push notification token: a device token used to deliver notifications, if you enable them.
• Basic device and diagnostic data: information needed to keep the App secure and functioning (for example, to prevent abuse and fix crashes).

2. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
• To provide the App's core features, including articles, quizzes, and personalized content.
• To verify your email address and allow you to reset your password.
• To send you notifications you have opted into.
• To protect the security of the App and prevent fraud or abuse.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your personal data with third parties for advertising. We may share information only with:

• Service providers who help us operate the App, bound by confidentiality obligations. These include our hosting provider, our email delivery service, and the Expo push notification service (used solely to deliver notifications you have enabled).
• Legal authorities where required by law or to protect our rights and the safety of users.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you request deletion of your account, your data is scheduled for deletion and removed from our active systems.

5. Your Rights and Account Deletion

You may access, update, or delete your account information at any time from within the App. To delete your account and associated personal data, open the Profile screen in the App and use the Delete Account option. After you confirm, your account is scheduled for deletion and your personal data is removed from our active systems; you may cancel the request during the scheduled grace period before it completes. You may also contact us at the email below to request deletion. We will process verified requests in accordance with applicable law.

6. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including password hashing, encrypted transport (HTTPS), authentication tokens, and safeguards against brute-force access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age required by your local law to consent to the processing of personal data. We do not knowingly collect personal information from such children. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

8. International Users

Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information as described in this policy.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date above when we do, and material changes will be communicated within the App where appropriate.
